UK Defence Human Security Advisers Course 2019
2018 saw the delivery of the first two-week Human Security training programme with 34 UK students and 10 international students from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Canada, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Somalia and the USA.
This was followed by a second course in June 2019 with more UK officers and students from Pakistan, Iraq, Malaysia, Bosnia, Ethiopia and Nigeria.
Participants came away with an increased knowledge of the impact of conflict on civilians and how to mitigate against this from planning to patrol. Several personnel will go on to deploy as Human Security/Gender Advisers, and others will return to posts to facilitate the implementation across their subjects.
The course staff are made up of UK and international military expertise with visiting lecturers from NGOS, academia and other UK government departments.
A third UK course will run in November 2019.
